Widgets like top posts, recent comments etc

What do you think about the widgets like top posts or recent comments etc?
Do you think that these help a lot in increasing the user engagement on your websites or reduce the bounce rate?

i like them, i like seeing them, i may see something i wouldnt have unless it was there, or my members may be interested in something they wouldnt have either. a certain subject may attract a visitor into a member

I use them, but they don't really do much. Sure, there are a bunch of people who use them to find good stuff on my blog, but a majority of them are only interested in reading the latest articles.
