Why is the capital city of most nations the most developed?

Why do most people choose to live in the capital when they can all stay in their current cities or relocate to the one that is nearest to them and develop there, so that all cities can develop equally? This may seem like an odd question to ask. What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree with me, or am I writing gibberish?

The capital city is the face value of the country, so they develop capital city at the cost of rural towns and villages. They also focus more on capital city development because all politicians live in capital city.
