The rhythm section of a band never does get the recognition that it deserves I don't think, and most people will be able to name a lead singer and lead guitarist but when it comes to the base player or the drummer they'll only know the most famous ones. I'm not sure that it's got anything to do with people not thinking they're good musicians, I just think that with a drummer and base player being towards the rear of the band that they get somewhat lost and especially when it comes to watching a band live.

Being a drummer is kind of a specialist position in a band and a bit like in football where you have a kicker, it's only another kicker (or drummer) that can appreciate fully the work they do and just how hard that position is.

Some people might think it's easy because they think they might only be banging the drum but they sure don't know it takes skill to get the rhythm right. It is difficult to incorporate the different drums plus the snare to make rhythm sound correct. There is counting invloved and mind control as well.

I think that's just ignorance. The idea of playing drums being easy is because people don't realize the skill necessary to create rhythm and everything necessary to be an harmonious part of a music. It requires as much training and talent as any other instrument, sometimes even more.

I think it's instilled into them while they are still children. "Oh, I can make a beat on a desk..playing the drums must be super easy". That's what I used to think too until I blabbed too much and got a set of drums placed in front of me only to make myself look stupid. It's not hard but it's not as easy as I thought it would have been.

The only kind of drumming that is easy to play is 4/4 time which most pop and rock songs use so in some sense drumming is easier than other instruments at the beginning stage but if you want to become a great drummer than it takes a lot of time, work, practice, and patience.

A very common impression is that other people think that playing the drums is just tapping, banging or hitting the drums with the drumstick. Not knowing that playing it is really complex and requires lots of energy from you.

Nothing is ever easy when it comes to entertainment because it needs talent and creativity to stand out everyone can sing and play all sort but the outstanding ones are the ones with unique voice, vocals, pitch and breath control. When it comes to instruments it never easy as well but those with good beating rhythms and playing skills will be noticed and this doesn't come easy from my personal observation.

Maybe because we thought playing drums is just easy like bangging some metals and drums with a stick. I also used to think of that. When I was in high school. I'm a member of Rondalia or music group. We usually play during mass and important events in our school. I'm a guitarist back then. When we have free time I'm always watching my friend, who is the drummer of our group practice. I asked her if I can try it because I thought it's just a piece of pie. And then I realized it's not really. I was able to make a sound though I think it's a noise. There's a count and rhythm too. That if your not a musician you really find it hard. Tempo also.

4/4 isn't always easy. In fact, poly-rhythmic beats (rock) and jazz are nearly all 4/4.

Playing drums is not easy, I've tried it several times and I was not successful with it. I think I would lose interest at times I don't know how I will just lose focus but I know its not easy at all.

I have tried to play piano, I did well with that instrument for a while before I dropped it for blowing trumpet.

I think that all the things we see that are done in this world seems easy to do until we try it. Most people think that the drums instruments are easy to learn but the fact is that you must have the talent to learn to play the drums, you must feel the music and have a passion for it.

I heard it said before that the beat of the drums is a universal thing. It resembles our heartbeat actually. Jazz for one carries a beat that is calm and upbeat, and at times we are like that; rock beats are similar to our rebellious fighting mode beat; popular beat is just probably for whiling away the time. I may be found wanting in my explanations but for sure the beat of the drums go with the beatings of the human heart.

Ever since I was a child I've actually looked up on drummers because ever since I knew that their jobs weren't easy and that drums isn't an easy instrument. For me it's harder than the piano because it really needs full concentration (for me). That's why I don't understand why some people view drums as an easy instrument.

I nver thought of drums as an easy instrument to play, quite the opposite, I think is one of the hardest. All instrument require a level of coordination to be played, but for me (a not so coordinated person) drums are on a higher level and all the movements you have to make in order to play them are very complex. I mean, I saw "Whiplash" a few days ago and it was insaje the amount of effort that it takes.

My nephew who had the passion for drumming was given a brand new drumset by his mother. My cousin is rich so I understand her desire to please her son when she had a small studio constructed for the purpose. Her son could play drums any time. But after a few months, the drums were not used anymore. My nephew had a new expensive camera for his new toy. When I asked about the drums, he admitted that drumming is not easy.

I think it's just ignorance. People don't realize that playing a drum requires a lot of skill and work, it's not as simple as just banging the drum to create a tune or beat, it takes a lot of work to get the rhythm right. Ever heard of the famous saying "Practice makes perfect"

Media portrays it as easy and undesirable. You don't have the spotlight as a drummer as much as a bass player or guitar player or the singer. Not saying there aren't many who are in the spotlight, but the thing is people see someone hitting something with a stick and think "oh I can do that".
