Was there a certain event you held on your forum that was particularly successful? I've found that a lot of contests on my forums don't really get much interest or new activity. On a site I'm an Admin on, a daily Trick or Treat event seemed to generate some activity overall and it got daily log ins, so that was good. It was so much work though!

I can't say there was ever any particular event that I did on my forum that was a huge success if I am honest. I remember doing a referral contest in which members would bring people over to register and they would get a point for every time someone registered under their referral, as much as we got a few people who joined in, it wasn't as popular as I expected it to be.

I took part in this event Trick or Treat when it was held on that forum. I can say that it was a fantastic one which everyone who participated in it won. There was no loser in the event.
Unfortunately, I never get to host any kind of such events on my forum when it was alive.

Seasonal activities were always my favorites. Now thinking back though not all people have spring and fall at the same time, so it may be harder to embed that thinking about ALL people. I suppose you could do a poll to see where majority of people are from though to make sure it is mostly inclusive. I also just did random themed activities. Scavenger hunts were fun especially towards the beginning of a forum. Maybe having a flash game and having members post their highest score. Easy, free, and bragging rights.
