When you are making big changes to your community, such as moving to a new software or changing the way in which the forum looks, how do you go about it?

Do you simply just go and make the change without informing your members or do you like to tell your members what you're doing and seeing what they have to say?

I think its better to let the active members know about the change before doing it, if its a big one. If its not a big one, discuss it with your staff and once the change is completed, notify all your users!

Sure is better! Although it does depend on the type of upgrade to be honest! I liked it when I came here and found out you were on Xenforo, was a nice surprise!

I always let my members know about any changes that may be happening. It's only right, in my opinion. I know I wouldn't want to show up to a forum I use frequently to find it completed changed without warning.

Until now I have not made any changes to my sites except that I had to shut down one of my communities and I shut it down without announcement. There was not much active users, so I did not bother to announce it. I also shut down as a temporary measure but sadly, I have not been able to reopen it for more than 6 months
