What's your favorite version of phpBB so far?

Obviously, it's in the best interest of everyone to use the latest version. However, what I mean to ask here is what version of phpBB you enjoyed using the most.

I think that my favorite version of phpBB so far was phpBB2, particularly the later releases. I ran some of my best communities on the later versions of phpBB2, so it's very nostalgic for me. It was also kind of neat that you had so much control over the features that were available on your forum since vanilla phpBB didn't really have a ton back then.

Gah, phpBB 2 is bleh to me. I set up a demo board with it one time and even though people said it was good for the years it was released for, I felt it was very bland and could have offered more functionality like how vBulletin did, but that could be in part with phpBB being open source and not corporate paid backing.

phpBB 3.1 has been somewhat promising, and it seems to work a lot better than 3.0 did as if you ran AutoMod and weren't careful, you outright broke your board easily. Extensions have a better setup and aren't a pain to remove it appears.
