My favorite is the Roswell Incident.

For those who don't know this is when a supposed UFO landed in Roswell, New Mexico and was written off as a "weather balloon"

That Atlantis was actually an advanced civilization but fell like Rome. I've read some interesting stuff about it like they actually had saucer-like crafts resembling ufos and had other advanced technology.
