The internet is full of bad SEO advice, half truths, SEO myths and misconceptions and down right lies. Most people are just guessing about SEO. And, it's partly Google's fault. They say one thing and often reward another. I think Google has good intentions to keep Google search relevant and spam free. But it takes so long for the algorithm changes to kick in. You still see lots of spam results from webmasters who know how to game the search engine.
