What's the best free forum software in 2022?

I want to make a few new forums but not sure what software to use?
I would like a free one for starters until my forum generates some money so I can buy a better one like XenForo or vBulletin.

From what I've seen, it would be phpBB cause it's mobile out of the box like premium software. However, though, I have heard good things about Flarum, but I haven't tried it. Anyway, MyBB and SMF aren't bad, but require certain free themes or premium themes to be mobile ready.

Actually, all in all, I don't think there is enough of a difference in free forum choices to matter that much. Actually, I still feel like things done wrong are mostly the fault of inexperience on the part of the website developer.

phpBB definitely stands our as the best free forum software, bt if you re running a community for the first time, you might find phpBB little tricky. SMF is really good for newbies. I hear Flarum is good but never tried it. Except for mobile version, mybb is alo nice.
