What perks do you give to members for staying active?

Looking for some new ways to encourage members to remain active on one of my forums.

I have special badges and colorful usernames and access to private sections of the forum but what else can I offer?

I do not think you can make your users active on your forum just with badges, access to private sections, colorful usernames, etc. You can make your users active only when your site offers value to your users. Your users need to have a proper reason to remain active on your forum. I sometimes offer cash incentives.

Unfortunately I don't give any special perks to my forum members who are active but what I usually do is to run a contest once in a while. This is so that those who are active are going to participate in the contest. Those who win will get cash prizes in the end of the contest.
