Running a community need skills in multiple discipline. Knowledge and skills about the software you want to use is the basic requirement for running a community. You also need skills to create content on your community niche. That's because when you start you are the only member and you will need to publish some topic before you can invite other people. You also need marketing and SEO skills to bring traffic and users. What other skills do you need?

You need people skills as well. You might run into people that want to cause trouble, and you'll need to act accordingly to different scenarios. I feel that you might not run into many issues like this these days, but you just never know.
Being able to read people is indeed important.

With that, it's important to be unbiased about it. Bias enabled you to take sides too often and the side you take could be wrong and result in a toxic aftermath which could destroy your forum in the end.
