The major difference between the affluent and the poor is that the affluent can afford whatever they want to buy and still survive during recession but the poor may not be able to cope.

I think the difference that makes a person rich/ wealthy or poor is in the mindset. The mindset of a rich man is different from that of a poor man. A rich man doesn't care about people's opinions about him when he is in his business. He doesn't see his business as demeaning but a poor man would not do a particular business because of his ego, no matter how lucrative the business is.
