As we run websites and communities we must also think about our time management!

How do you handle your time management? Do you not worry about a set schedule and you show up when you show up. Do you think providing yourself a schedule would reduce or increase burn out? Do you try to spend at least 1-2 hours actively on the community itself and maybe set another hour aside for any background work?

What do you recommend to a new administrator out there?

I spend way too much time on my forum, consistently re-accessing/refreshing the site daily. If I didn't have a job I would be in front of the computer even more than I am now. Forums have become my way of life and I enjoy them more than anything else it seems. With little to no other interests in life, I'm always on my forum waiting for new topics/replies or waiting to think of new ideas to implement to make the site even better.

I would recommend checking the site frequently throughout the day if you're able to, whether on desktop or mobile, having a sense of presence in your community often makes it feel like it's more of a passion that you wish to pursue and not necessarily something that feels like a chore.

I have a set time usually on weeknights, during the weekend I just tend to get online whenever I feel like it. On weeknights I come home from work around 4:50ish, then I immediately feed my cats and eat dinner. After dinner, I get on the computer and dedicate a few hours to post on forums and on Discord too since I am staff on the Sonic Hacking Contest server as I'm a judge. This has helped me keep up with posting exchanges I've started with a few forums, plus it helps me to remember to take the time to focus on my own forums too and not forget about them.
