vBulletin and Xenforo are two popular premium forum software. They don't have free versions. vBulletin license costs $249 per month, whereas Xenforo price starts from $130. Xenforo was released in 2011, whereas vBulletin was released in 2000. I think Xenforo is more popular than vBulletin due to the pricing. This forum is built on Xenforo and it looks cool. What do you think?

Most people have a tendance to Xenforo due to the facility of use compared to VBulletin due to the features that are available in Xenforo like the PHP warning are not viewed in Xenforo but not in vBulletin.

VB has had a bad rep and I'm not sure if it's still the case or not. Well, I've seen one spam infested forum (a few years ago) that even smart guys (math tutors) couldn't even fix. However, though, everyone is not an expert in all things.

Anyway, I still think the case with all forum software, generally, is bad owners, not bad software.

I don't even know any forums that use VB anymore, to be honest. XenForo is a great option and it is what I use for my forum at the moment. Not too expensive, especially compared to VB, and it has a great selection of resources available for it.

Xenforo is by far better managed. I would not use VB in 2022. Heck, I would not have used it 5 years ago. I feel like there are better options out there even if you do not want to go the Xenforo route. Flarum is one example if you need one.

If you have the funds, Xenforo is the better platform, It's a comparably amazing experience to write addons for it, and it's surely not losing popularity.

I think vBulletin is more preferred by many forum owners. It is easy to navigate and affordable. It's easy to manage as well.
