Using HTTPS

It has become increasingly important to use https protection on your site. All eCommerce sites should use it to protect customer's info as best as they can. But it is becoming important for sites which even just collect login details to use SSL technology to encrypt and protect users passwords, emails, etc. as it is processed. Within the next few years search engines even plan on giving priority to sites which use Https, so if there are two very similar sites, the one with SSL will always be ranked higher.

I feel HTTPS is a must have for sites that may wish to collect donations, or take any form of payment- this is secure and means hackers cant intercept the transaction; I personally only donate or make payment on sites with a HTTPS connection.

IN 2016, when this thread was created perhaps https was not much rquired. But these days, you need https on your site, some browsers do not allow you to check the site of it does not use https.

I use free SSL from Let's Encrypt. It is very important to use SSL on your site. If you do not have SSL on your site, you will not only use your visitors but also position from the search engine rwsuylt page. Site witout SSL will be displayed with warning so people are not confident enough to visit these sites.
