Have you ever experienced a sudden boost of activity on your forums? How did you adjust to the wave of traffic?

Yeah, when certain AI bots went AS crazy and seemed to be unthrottled.
I simply blocked them at the CF level. It's amazing how much bandwidth the various bots steal from your site and give you no real benefit. For those on shared "unlimited" hosting or with a server with no bandwidth transfer restrictions (amount) it's not a big deal. But if you are on a hosting plan that has a set transfer limit it robs you of what you are paying for.

Have you ever experienced a sudden boost of activity on your forums? How did you adjust to the wave of traffic?

If this is a genuine boost of real member activity, there was likel a trigger or event that caused the influx. Was this trigger external (eg. some breaking news or current event or another community) or internal (you sent out a mass email inviting members)?

Like any other fast-moving situation, I think the key is communication, communication, communication. If you act quickly enough, you can put up banners, welcome messages, alerts welcoming the new members. The goal is to retain those members as much as possible so they return as future members.

This was before Black Ops 6 came out. The BO6 Beta had some kind of virality. But this did not happen again on launch day. Weird.
