Who here has spent the most money on buying a domain? Some are often listed for thousands of dollars, while a traditional domain only costs $10. Was there some time that you absolutely need to have a specific domain that was being sold for lots of money? If so, which and for how much?

The domain where my email is (and my first website, when it finally got big enough to have its own domain!), is a .org which I bought originally in 2001 for $217 then. Not because it was particularly expensive but mostly because I thought at the time I needed to go with someone 'special' for .org, and found Network Solutions. Of course the following year I moved it and renewed it for $10 or so...

There was also the time I'd bought a .org, someone came to me to tell me the .com was 'available for the low price of $300' when in reality it had just expired and I could pick it up for $10, so that was a win.

I paid about $200 for a domain once. I never used it and let it expire. 🤷‍♂️

I probably could had made a little bit more than I paid for it but I've never been good at the domain name flipping business.

Now I just get available domain names.
