Spending a lot of money on a domain

Advertisement Placeholder
The domain where my email is (and my first website, when it finally got big enough to have its own domain!), is a .org which I bought originally in 2001 for $217 then. Not because it was particularly expensive but mostly because I thought at the time I needed to go with someone 'special' for .org, and found Network Solutions. Of course the following year I moved it and renewed it for $10 or so...

There was also the time I'd bought a .org, someone came to me to tell me the .com was 'available for the low price of $300' when in reality it had just expired and I could pick it up for $10, so that was a win.
