Sony has sold 40 million Playstation 5 units

Sony announces that they have already sold more than 40 million units of the PS5. The shortages have been resolved, allowing for a significant surge in sales, indicating that the PS5 is performing exceptionally well in terms of sales. In this year alone, 10 million new PS5 consoles have been sold.

For comparison, the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S together have only sold 21 million units. On the other hand, the Nintendo Switch has surpassed 125 million units sold since its release in 2017, while the latest PlayStation and Xbox consoles were launched in 2020.

The PS5 appears to be accelerating its sales pace, approaching the rate at which the PS4 achieved its milestone. It took the PS4 30 months and 6 days to reach 40 million units sold, while the PS5 accomplished it in 32 months and 15 days. This is quite impressive considering the backdrop of shortages and challenging economic conditions.

Ultimately, the PS4 sold just over 117 million units since its launch in 2013. Whether the PS5 will come close to that number remains to be seen. The best-selling console of all time is still the PS2, which has sold over 155 million units to date.

I got my PS5 back in 2021 when it was difficult to get one. I eventually do want to get a Xbox Series X to replace my Xbox One S. I got the PS5 because of the exclusives, I can pretty much play any of the newest Xbox games on my PC or Xbox One S. It's cool to see that Sony has sold over 40 million units!

Interesting. Didn't know PS2 was that popular. I don't have the 5, only the 4 and I won't be upgrading. I barely game anymore.
