Just curious... In your state/country what social studies do you learn in grade school? I never thought much about it, but now that I teach it, I'm curious what everyone does.
Prior to 3rd grade it's all embedded in other classes in one way or another. Learning about the community and time.
Grade 3 - This is typically embedded in their english class, but it's learning how diverse people have changed their communities and world. Studying the effects inspiring heroes have had on communities etc etc.
Grade 4 - Focus on my state history
Grade 5 - US History - 1565 to present.
Grade 6 - World Cultures
Grade 7 - My State History from early times to present day
Grade 8 - US History - early colonial through Reconstruction - more detailed than 5th.
Grade 9 - US History of 1877 - present day
Grade 10 - World History - history of humankind but focus on essential concepts and skills.
Grade 11 - World Geography
Grade 12 - Economics with Emphasis on Free Enterprise System and Its benefits / US Government. Grade 12 is two classes, one each semester.
