Should you start your forum with a custom theme?

When you open a new forum or blog do you make sure you have a custom theme first? Or do you think starting out with a good pre made theme is okay?

I started my forum with a few pre made themes to choose from, and then bought a custom theme a few months down the road. I think it's better to wait a while so you know your not wasting your money paying for a custom theme for a forum that will never take off.

What do you think?

Custom theme will be very good idea if the forum is part of a popular website or service. Otherwise having a custom theme is not a good idea at the start. Of course if you have big plans for the forum and unique ideas, a custom theme will help you! Otherwise if would be wise to have a premium theme instead of custom ones at the start!

If you have the money to spend, then you should almost always go custom. If you don't then a premium theme will do most forums well as long as you customize it just a bit.
