Should making money be the only thing a company should do?

I think in that cases, the company should have some kind of authentic record that could prove them right in case if they have indeed donated money to a charity organisation. Companies get exempted from paying taxes when they, indeed, donate money to welfare organisations.

The problem is that some of them go about it in an illegal way just to avoid paying taxes and trying to have their books cooked up in a way that it will present something that look realistic which is something that is very wrong.

Well, they may have a really harder time covering it up if the accountability system of the government is good. Unfortunately, this is not the case in many places that have a really poor or corrupt governmental structure. This is why tier 1 countries progress and develop a lot comparatively because they have a much better system.

It is all down to the corruption tendency that faces most developing countries in which those that have access to helping the country develop better with a very good system usually are very selfish and self-centered. They only thing about themselves.
