Should forums have a Chatroom?

Old school-style forums were perfect - they preserved comment history better, had a more welcoming "anonymous" feel to them, could have posts that span years and didn't have the sort of "flash in the pan" feeling that Reddit does.

New posts bumping old threads up was way better than sorting stuff by upvotes. It meant that new developments caused a flurry of activity that directly pushed the thread to the top of that forum category. Comment sorting by oldest to newest made sense, instead of this arbitrary "first comment starts a thread." and deep conversations devolve into pressing into oblivion.

Not just Reddit but most social medias I find it harder to find content that’s older, even if it’s more relevant to the search.

I always install a locally hosted IM service on my forums. I and the other members use it quite often. As for chatrooms? Nah, no one ever used it. lol

IPS tried the chat aspect in a forum and it really didn't work that well. I have noticed that a lot of forums have dropped the infamous "shoutbox" that was like a chat in the forum script I feel discord and social media are good places to chat

I prefer a general chat thread like there is here on AJ. A chatroom kinda takes away from the whole posting aspect of foruming. A shoutbox could work but again I think a general chat thread does the trick.

It's pointless nowadays, I mean I thought about it but why... FOurms for posting on anyway
