Designing a website logo is not an easy feat and this is the first thing that people are going to see when they open your web page and often this can make the difference in someone that is just passing by your site and something that may choose to use it further. Do you think that you should always get a professional to design to the logo for your site? To me I think that it can be a good idea but in doing so you are also losing that personal touch that you as the owner can give to the site logo as well.

If you are good with photo editing software such as Photoshop or illustrator you can design your own logo. If not, it's better to get professional help through a freelancing website such as Fiver. Because your logo becomes your trademark and your users would be able to identify you easily on various channels such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, etc., This helps you to stand out from the other bloggers and forums.

I do agree with you and people tend to remember any website based on the logo that there is and therefore if it is cheaply designed it can give off that impression for the rest of the website as well.

It depends on what kind of websites you are running, for a blog and a forum, the logo is not ever necessary. However, if your site is an ecommerce site, you might need a well designed logo. If your intentions are to build a brand through your website, logo is required and it should be professionally designed
