So, in the UK there are some universities that belong in the Russell Group. Generally, you hear lots of people talking about the Russell Group and how they are the best universities with the best future prospects? But, what about other universities? Surely they are just as (if not better) than some in the group. I mean granted, Oxbridge, LSE, UCL, KCL, Imperial are in the group and they are on the highest of levels in the world but there are other good unis such as Bath, St. Andrews, Lancaster that also seem good but are not part of the group?

Can't speak so much for the "Russell Group" as I don't know anything about it but surely there are other factors to consider than just the university. Future prospects will depend on how you make use of your time and I can definitely see people going to great unis but not picking up any useful shit along the way that makes them employable.

Russel group Unis are ones that are known as research intensive so contribute to improving scientific or other understanding. Generally, You can trust that a Russel group uni will deliver you a good education with good teaching and future prospects. However, There are plenty of great unis that aren't russel group and some russel group unis might not be great for your particular course so its important to do plenty of research. Having said that I do think the rankings are kinda bullshit and always change so its equally important that you think you will enjoy living in this place for 3+ years. For example Don't apply for Durham only because it is a top 5 for your course if you want to live a city life as you might prefer the environment of a bigger city uni like Manchester or Birmingham. Good Luck navigating the Uni system!

All I can say is don't rely on the league tables as your main source of arriving at a decision. They also vary because of the different factors they use.
