Have you ever joined in a public protest? What was it like and did it end up in violence (not by your hand)?

I've never taken part in a protest and I'm 53! I hate crowds so it makes sense I would avoid them. But what really turned me off right away about protests is that there are people who just want to feel like a part of something and that's what mattered the most.

When I was 18 and in art school there was a huge protest in Chicago. I'm not sure which one it even was for but some people were going from the school to take part and they were excited except they didn't know what the protest really meant. They just wanted to ditch school.

I feel like there are always some bad people looking to profit or get something out of a protest, for their own selfish reasons. It's ridiculous really and can tarnish the good message that a protest can be trying to achieve. It is usually vandalism or violence that can happen at these things and I do not agree with that.

I have never participated in a protest. But I do agree with 22. It's a shame that some of the protests have turned violent because it gives an excuse for some to take away their support from them. But then again, how many protests have we had for things like Black Lives Matter and what has changed since then? Nothing.

Naaah, I know things need to change but standing in the middle of a angry crowd is the worst thing to do, since there are people sneaking into these protest crowds and making trouble.

Things have gone pretty much wrong now. Protesters are getting paid to protest and also heard that some rioters got paid by the real estate mafias. And they managed to attack the places and got the land cleaned up. So a lot of small business got closed in the process as well. I am sure a lot of busienss would not return in that city in near future. Communism was pretty much in control of that event.

It's what happens when you don't keep control on the crowd you form, a real shame this is happening from one death.

Naw I wouldn't go to protests I would try to support in other ways depending on what they are protesting. Big crowds usually mean there is lots of trouble during these things. Like a few of you mentioned people go just to cause trouble and cause their own crime and not really there to show true support.
It's dangerous.
