Precious metals vs. precious stones

Gold (precious metal) is one of the most popular assets for investment. Likewise, a lot of people buy diamonds (precious stone) as an investment. Between precious metal and precious stones, which do you think can give you better yield and which one is risk free investment?

I don't tend to invest much in precious metals, and when I do it's in silver and gold, so I don't know much about precious stones, if I had to invest in one market right now between these two I would invest in precious metals, the other one would have a lot to study.

A lot of people say diamonds and other gen stones are also good investment. However, the main issue with these precious stones is they they cannot be sold immediately, at least not in my country.
