So, the application of gaining access to a closed, WIP forum (but not becoming a staff member) is starting to become a trend. What do you think of this upcoming new trend?

I think that this can be a good system to have because in a way that ensures that all of the people that are on the fourm are good and reliable and will maintain the quality as well.

I have access to closed forums on a couple of forums but I have access because I am a staff. A lot of forums where I am not a staff also have closed forum and you will have to pay money to access these areas and spending money on forums is not my kind of thing.

I think it can be a good way to get some feedback and insight for your community and if you utilize add-ons or have a custom theme, people can beta-test these items for you.

Like a little beta sort of thing where you only allow a select few of the members to get access first? I've never really done it myself, but I can see it being a fun way to give your users some time with your site before a slew of members eventually joins it. If it's something you want to do, more power to you. I don't know if there is any benefits of doing it, but maybe users will like you more. Idk.
