Just curious for those out there that have a general off-topic forum on their site. Do you allow posts posted in the off-topic forums to contribute to a user's post count. Sites like Postloop use addons that view subscriber's post counts, therefore making you lose money. Do you try to have your members focus more on the overall niche?

I would recommend allowing them to count - except for the "forum fun" area. They are still legitimate posts. I suppose if you are using PostLoop, you might be better off stopping posts in that section from counting... Do the people who signup because of PostLoop tend to be posting in your general areas?

Well, my forum niche is general discussion, so I do allow the post count to increase in the off-topic area. I do not however allow posts to count in the 'Forum Games' section, as that is for fun and "spammy" posts :) I try my best to encourage my members to post in forums with little posts to increase discussion and to easily increase their post count. If I were to run a non-general discussion niche, I'd probably disable post counts in the general area.

Most of the people from Post Loop actually did a good job of posting all over my forum. Then again, I have a general chat forum, so it's not that hard to find a favorite subforum there. Though some posted to forum fun. That area doesn't have post count enabled, so it didnt matter anyway. Same for introductions, where some people from Postloop were coming back five and ten times to update the same thread. That was just using up my points, so I disabled post count there.

Well, My off topic forum (www.offtopicz.com) was a forum I had purchased. I allow all posts to count towards post count at the moment. I don't really see much since in not allowing it in some forums as the entire forum is there as an off topic chat forum xD

I suppose if I was not going to allow certain posts to count in specific areas then it would be the Introduction area. A lot of users simply reply with "welcome". So this is why I would put it on my list to not count it.
