I think this depends on the level of recycling. Some people only collect the items for free while others go all the way to processing and producing other materials for free. The amount of income depends on the materials and quality produced.

In my country it is the opposite of what you've stated here. Recycling plastic is very profitable here and a lot of people use plastic everyday,in fact millions of people use plastic everyday. The profitability of recycling plastic in my country can not be overemphasized.

All I can say about plastic recycling is it's a nice way to preserve the environment rather than make so many plastics. We will be flooded with plastics. Our ocean will drown with plastic. It is a prerogative to preserve our environment. We should learn how to adapt with it.
