Is it a good idea to purchase both the .com and .net for your domain? What would be the pros and cons of doing something like that?

When I started my new project, I wasn't sure which to go for, and in the end we bought the .com. I don't think we would need the .net too, but should we go for it?

I once had dot com, dot info, and dot net for my domain. I used one domain for the website and use domain redirection for others. However, I could not use multiple domain extensions for long because renewal charges were getting costly. Therefore, I just kept dot come and gave up the remaining two. If you are trying to build a huge brand and want to protect your trade mane, I think this cna be really helpful.

I would say the pros are that people would have more ways to remember your URL if you had the .net and the .com but the cons would be that it would cost you more in the long run to keep both in terms or payment when that is due.

If you are able to afford the price to keep the domains though, it could be a good thing to have the two.

If you main url is dot net, more often than not, visitors who come to your website by typing your url on their address bar would mistakenly type dot com. This is something that is bound to happen often.

Therefore it is advisable to own and redirect dot com url of your address to your website if you are using dot net or other as your main url.

Owning both a .com and .net domain can be advantageous, it's not always necessary or feasible for every business or individual. The decision to acquire multiple domain extensions should be based on your specific needs, budget, and goals.

If it isn't expensive, it is usually worth it to just buy both and have the other redirect to the main site. I know a lot of people who do this and it keeps other people from copying you as well.
