I want to make a new community of my own, and I want to use the .org domain, as I would like to make it into some kind of community/charity. I want to be able to help my friends out, and also provide help for others in need. I figure a site that helps people learn to code, create websites, and more is what I would like to do for my new company. Would a .org domain work fine for that? I just feel it makes it more official.

Extension in a domain is very important while setting up a blog and you need to know that .org extension don't have visibility on search engine like .com domain extension. If you want to make search engine index your domain faster, you need to buy .com domain extension to rank well your website

I believe org stands for organisation, so i guess it would fit the purpose of your website just fine, but the is that it's not a usual thing, people mostly go for something else like .com etc, so you have to deal with that

. org is widely used by the government and organizations. Although .com is widely searched and visited by the people, if you give enough publicity, your site may also be sought after since .org suit your website the most being a community of people.

That's not true. domain extension has nothing to do with search engine optimization. You can use any extension and rank high provided you have high quality content on your site (except free domain, of course). Dot org or dot com, or dot xyz, you can use any extension you want, it does not matter for SEO

Dot com is the most common domain extension on the internet. The is the reason why people choose all the time. Other extension are dot net, dot biz. People only go for dot Org when all extension has been taken that they still want to retain their domain name.

Org domains were originally meant for organization, especially non profit organization. However, these days org domains are used just like other domains for almost anything, even for commercial enterprise. I think org is a good domain for your project.

Most people will argue that the .org domain extension is specifically for website for organisations but I will say that the .org domain extension is not just specific for organisations but a normal website can use just as.com domain extension has become a multi-purpose domain extension even if it was originally created to commercial websites.

A .org Domaine is not just a domain that is good for just about anything. No, it doesn't work that way. If the .org domain you want to use is for the community type platform you stated, then it is going to be okay to use it

NO one is going to stop you from using dot org domain for any kind of site you want. Domain extension does not matter these days in terms of seo.

I think it would work just fine, especially since what you are trying to do is something related to charity and stuffs, the domain extension .org will work fine for that.

I have seen dot org being used for almost anything from a company website, business website, to a personal website, community, etc. Even though org is for organization, you can use for all websites.

I personally buy what I want and find them interesting. for example I have a blog with my name and the .me extension. But if you want to do something serious, a domain matters for the google search and the traffic you generated. :)
