How do you all go about getting traffic, members, etc. when/if you open up a site in a huge niche?

When I did Minecraft server hosting, we relied heavily on word of mouth to start. Forum adverts did surprisingly little in gaining us page views & gaining customers.

You have to offer something that the other sites in that niche don't offer so people will join or visit your site. Once you have that thing, its important to advertise it as much as you can too, so that people come check it out.

Well, with advertising. It's not easy for a newbie webmaster to survive in this virtual world. So, we will have to take the help of google adwords and other forms of advertising like facebook advertising and such.
Also, it's better to use promotion forums to promote the forum or website to get the word out. The main thing is...just don't give up. Try at least for three years or so, before shutting something down. Everything needs time after all.

In the beginning, it's best to use promotion forums and to get your members to refer others, but it really doesn't come down to advertising. Members won't join if there is nothing to join; you have to offer something others do not and make that something known to everyone.
