I think it is. As long as you meet the person in a public place.
I've used it in the past but since have stopped because I never met anyone but creeps.

To my own view, online dating is not safe except if both can find means of meeting physically because many use that avenue to scam people
exactly the point, online dating is not safe , there are many scammers and impersonators out there you have to be very careful not to fall on the wrong part.
