Is anyone into newspapers, magazines, flyers, or bulletin boards? Well, when I first started a website, back around 2000, I would go to grocery stores and post on the free BBboards. Did it work? No, but I had done the same with a music lesson thing with good success.

I think it really depends what you're advertising. It makes sense for business owners, but for forums and blogs its probably not going to do much.
