Members Recently Online

Well, I have never changed the time frame for "recently online." On some forums, mostly on the sites where I am staff or I like visiting frequently, I show my online status. On the forums which I visit occasionally, I hide my online status.

We don't have "members recently online" on Jcink, just "members online today". I made a code once that changed the members online today to the past two days, but other than a code, you're pretty much stuck with members online that day. I think members who visited in the past 24 hours is a decent amount of time to show who was recently online. A day is, after all, a central timeframe that most people go by to see a website's recent user activity.

Most forums, if not all, have the "Recently online users" on most of these softwares you can change the timeframe. What timeframe do you think is the perfect amount for a community? 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 24 hours?

Why do you choose the amount of time you have, or why do you like the default time?

Using the 24 hours timeframe is better for me. I want to see how each member is consistent with visiting the site. There are people that have a plan of how they visit a forum 2 hours daily and using the 24 hours timeframe gives me a better view of what I am looking for.

To be very honest with you, I don't really care much about the display of those who's been online and left. It's an information that doesn't mean much to me. But when it comes to displaying those who are online actively, it's something that I love so much. I need to see those who are online with me at the same time.

I still do not bother about it at all. Of what use are I using such information of those you came online or those who didn't come online to do? I just come online to enjoy myself and leave afterwards without much care about who was recently online and who was not.

Exactly! As a member, I don't really think it's something that I should be worried about because it doesn't add anything to however I am going to enjoy making use of the community which is why I've never really bothered about it. For a forum owner, I believe that they really need the data to know how their community is progress on.
