Making your ads mimic notifications

Are there any plug ins or modifications for Xenforo or other forum software that will cause the ads to appear as a notification? Not talking about Adsense ads, but the ads for forum sponsors, such as when you sell ad space or affiliate links/ads. Do you think this type of ad would annoy your site visitor, or would it draw more clicks?

I think that it would annoy visitors, because it's a type of popup advertisement and most users don't like 'em.
