If you were introduced to SEO recently, you will come across a term clled keyword stuffing. Keyword stuffingg is a term used for using more than 5 percent keywords on your article. If you use keywords more than 5 times in 100 word article, it is called keyword stuffing. Keyword stuffing is considered black hat SEO and frowned upo by search engines.

There is no need for redundancy of the same word if there is no utility for that even when repeating you can use alternative words or anything like this so that you were not let the sense of the article is lost and the reader is only concentring on redundancy and forgetting the main subject.
 
Yes, you can and must avoid the redundancy of the same keywords within your content. Instead, you can simply use synonyms and derivatives. For example, instead of using the word 'child' 5 times, you can use the derivative 'childhood' and synonyms like 'little one', 'kid' etc. for the word 'child'.
 
Google used to be passive about it but in the last 10 or so years, they really cracked down on it to the point where you would actually see your site get flagged and deranked over it.
 
Many developers imagine having keywords over and over would enhance their site's visibility. But Google has evolved to understand these tactics and would punish them for these actions by reducing their ranks or even blacklisting them.
 
It was popular back in 2010-2013 when Google rarely penalized website for blackhat SEO and this is only method to rank faster in Google specially for those websites which are new and doesn't know what to do. I used it lots
