Is my plumber scamming me?

Is my plumber scamming me? Is $80 more for a wide-spread faucet legit? I am building a house. In the bathroom, I would like a wide-spread faucet. It is a rather basic design that I see on-line for $5 more for the wide-spread version of the same faucet. My plumber says it will cost $80 more. When I questioned him, he said it was for the "valve". I'm not too trusting of him as he tried to charge me $385 for a sink that a store in the next town had for $207. When I questioned that, he came down to $197!
