I think it is in reference to wanting peace now, knowing that it could/would be ripped away from others after they pass on.
A long period of peace would be outside the norm of what we have known for recorded history. The problem would probably be that after that period of peace, those exposed to violence and similar issues would have problems dealing with it since they had no recent history/knowledge of how to do so.

No, it is not. But it is really unrealistic. After 1.5 decades in law enforcement I realized that there are WAY to many that are more than happy to take advantage of the complacent.

Yeah, people pretty much just want to be left alone, unless they welcome someone else (sometimes happens). That's what I was posting about on my blog recently.

Maybe people need to make clear they don't want to be harassed.

Peace and humanity cannot belong together.

We have free will, which allows us to freely indulge in jealousy, hate, regret, power hunger, and manipulative thoughts.

Everyone wants control of everyone. That's why there are laws. That's why there are prisons.

Peace cannot exist when there are human beings present.

We "want" too much, and we love to get what we want and see others lose what they want. Political preference and elections are proof of that.

I don't think it's selfish. Shawn pretty much summed it up though, society can never truly be peaceful. Us humans are our own worse enemies.

It can never be selfish to want peace. Peace is quite underrated until you finds it. There's nothing more peaceful, calm and interesting to have above everything in this world than peace.

Find peace and you will live longer.
