Better content discovery built into the search functions.
WIth XenForo you have the powerful feature of custom fields that can be used throughout it (the forum, XFRM, XFMG, 3rd party addons like from XenAddons)... but they simply can't be searched upon. So much possibility there that has been ignored by the developers for so long, even after it being suggested in their suggestion area and apparently still ignored even after the most recent "search update" that they did. I've commented several times about going that little extra distance in offering a a feature... but we see the real results in what are offered.

Custom fields for everything is very powerful!

Is there the ability to sort / filter by these custom fields?

Not that I've seen. As I said, they ignore one of the strongest features that they have for content discovery.

I'd like to move to Invision, if I had the money to I would move Thee Zone over. I love Woltlab Suite, but Invision is the best forum software on the market IMO. There's so many features that come with the software that I could use to benefit my community. The clubs could help declutter my forum, the gallery could be for members to share random pictures they've either created or taken. The pages plugin is probably more feature rich than Woltlab's CMS.

I think more posting formats would be ideal.

Have one for the normal such as regular posts, polls, and articles.

But add additional ones for courses, videos, galleries, and classifieds.

I feel like post formats could be a better way to keep people on the forum rather than create an additional feature that takes attention away from the core forum product.

Is your idea more like:
- bringing courses, videos, galleries and classifieds into the forums as new nodes , of
- keep then as separate apps but give more posting types for responses and comments?

You can implement videos and galleries using XenForo’s media add-on, which can then be embedded into a forum thread. This will help keep users engaged on the forums.

In addition, many of those outside add-ons can create their own discussions already. XFMG is one of the exceptions for some reason. You can embed, but you cannot have it generate a discussion thread.
With a few of my add-ons, instead of allowing comments, that is where the comments to go.

Yeah, more like Nodes.

Keeping them forum-concentrated but in a node style.
