If there was no socialism, would ordinary people really help others?

I am a bit cynical on the question. There's always an excuse. People will not want to sacrifice any money, especially any real money. They won't want insurance costs to go up (for say, housing the homeless and/or mentally ill at their home).

Of course, considering this, it's no wonder so many turns to Big Brother for help, to the dismay of conservatives.

I agree but I don't feel most people are kind enough to make real sacrifices, outside of the family circle.

Yeah, I do believe people would come together for a common cause. Even if there wasn't any government. Just watch The Walking Dead.
