I can't update my SMF software

I've been trying to update my SMF forum software for a long time. The update won't manually install and it won't install via package installer. Each time, it says the package is corrupt. The host is being of no help as apparently it's an SMF problem. For this reason, I'm stuck pre-2.0 SMF with all the horrible security loopholes that can't be patched. Anyway, just wondering if anyone else had this issue with SMF. What's the solution? Can I just move my databases to another software? Suggestions or ideas would be welcome as I'm very frustrated dealing with it.
