That's not demeaning, a lot of people use donation for generating income from their website. When you are adding donate button you are not actually begging, you are offering informative content and encouraging people to donate you for the free content you have provided. Donation based monetization is popular on youtube as well as Facebook and Tiktok

It can happen instantly but never overnight after you just make it, as Nomad stated.

It took my blog 4 years before it started earning. Now I'm on my 8th year and earning a second income with it alone.

Just make sure you have multiple streams of income to earn more money. Don't rely on just one thing.
