I agree with you, because nothing is as interesting as you being about to monitor the progress of your business everyday it will help you to know thing that you need to put in placeSure offcourse, the only person that may not know the growth or otherwise of his or her business will be some one who is not directly monitoring the business but recieve report once in a while.
I beleieve you will know that your business is collapsing the moment you realsises the amount of sales you at making is drastically going down to zero and people are no longer patronising you.When sales are going downhill, when your debt is increasing you need to understand your business is collapsing. If you find out this early on, you can easily take measures to stop this from happening

The funny and dangerous thing about this is that sales might be doing just fine, but you are spending way more than usual in terms of maintaining and running the business, far more than what the sales bring in.well, sales are not the only factor to consider whether your business is collapsing or not. While sales are directly linked to the revenue, you also need to consider other factors for instance business running cost, staffing, management, etc.
