You gotta find a coder and make everything work first. The next step is giving people what they need. Like if you make a forum about sports, you have to have some good engaging topics and news comming in. Standing out is so hard nowadays, so you gotta really turn on your brain to find a way to be better than the competition.

A forum about sports needs to hire a lot of staff to do the update of the news as you cannot handle them or do them yourself most of the time it needs a full moderation team with you.

Site building services offered by hosting websites such as Godaddy provides free tools to build your own website. But when you are starting a new one, it's always best to get professional help to build an efficient website.

I feel like free software is just as good as paid these days, it just depends on what you want access to. With free ones, it is open-source and more and more people are inclined to use open-source sites vs paid ones that hid their code. It all comes down to content though. You can have a forum that looks amazing and functions great but if your content is low-quality or lacking, you won't get people to join.

Free forum is good when you are new and you have no idea how to operate a forum. If you want to start something than MyBB is best place to start and once you learn you can move to other place.

Well, it's like with a car or a home. If you keep it in good condition, you don't need repairs and the repairs might be so minor you can do them yourself. I mean, if you know a lot about forums, you might only need free forum support offered by MyBB etc..
Free forum software will still need to be maintained and i think that there are times that you have to update it as well in order to try and ensure that security issues are resolved.

You are right. It all comes down to how you manage the forum. I have seen free forums that are doing well compared to expensive paid up forums. Since a forum is basically a community, it will all depend to the value you are giving your audience in the forum. If the members are getting good content from your forum, that will keep them coming every day. Plus, they will keep interacting with other members and sharing goodies.

All you need is like minded people interested in the subject and to make sure they feel part of the community. Encourage interaction between them and ensure the advertisements on the free forum are not intrusive.

There are several. Simple Machines Forum, BBpress, PHPbb You may also create your own forums. You must pay for a special forum. However, I recommend that you use any free forum.

You don't get traffic just for using premium products, you get traffic due to content. While site design will help you t retain traffic and improve user engagement, it is the content that ultimately matters. if your forum built on a free platform offers better content, you can excel.
