Service downtime is something that can very well happen to any business especially when it's a business that's run and managed using a website. It gets worst when the business owner doesn't run frequent maintenance which makes their website service downtime to be much work.

What's the longest time you have had to take before fixing your service downtime?

I usually get things back up and running in a few minutes, sometimes to a half hour or so. If it's worse, there's usually something else stopping me from getting it back up, and sometimes all you can really do is wait until you can make the needed fix to get it back up.

The longest time one of my sites was down, was maybe a day, but I was also updated the sites look and other aspects and it had a rocky start.

Updating your members about having a service downtime is something that's very necessary. If you don't, some of them will feel disrespected and they will likely leave. I would make sure to post an announcement about it and even mass send PM if it's going to be a scheduled downtime due to maintenance.

It depends on what kind of website it is. If the website is generating a lot of traffic and revenue, I will try to fix it immediately. However, if the website does not generate traffic and revenue, I might take really long time, sometimes even a couple of weeks.

I guess it's all about the importance of the forum in question and that's totally in its right. There's no point in rushing to sort out a downtime when there's no monetary gain in it. You might as use it as a time to take a little break from the site before getting it back up.

If you are running multiple websites, you will have to set your priorities correctly, and you need to focus more on profitable projects than non-profitable projects. I always work more on the projects that are generating me money, rather than the projects that are not generating me any money, or very small amount.

Many companies need to take this seriously. If the downtime persist for a long time, then this may have a really bad effect on your business. So, if you are running a business website, then you may need to fix this as soon as possible. Maybe your domain hosting company could help you?

If it's something that's got to do with your hosting services, you can easily contact the company's customer service and they will take care of it. It's why making use of a good hosting company that's going to offer you quick response and support whenever you need them.

Always make sure your service downtime is happening at your own choosing and it's going to be because you want to carry out maintenance. It will give you the time frame to know how long you're going to out before having the maintenance completed. It's like how my bank does it, they have their service downtime during mid night from around 12AM to 6AM. All their customers will be informed 3 days before this takes place.

It's the only way I know someone who sees his online projects as his business should go about it because it's where you make your money from. You can be distracted with what's not generating money for you when you should be focused on the one's that does that for you.

Well, you should focus on the most successful projects, however, this does not mean you should completely discard your less successful projects. YOu should also continue to build these projects so that they start generating revenue. If you can no longer work on these projects, you should consider selling them off, instead.

Yeah that's right. A forum project that's not successful today might end up becoming successful tomorrow as long as you didn't give up on it but kept putting in efforts in seeing it grow. Success comes with hard work and not giving up early or easily. It's one of my advice to any new forum owner.

Weeks, are you trying to tell me that if the sides was something that represented your brand or business or let's see you even decided to convert that site to your personal portfolio if one reason or the other it went down you could leave it for a week just so you know this are not site that generally need crazy traffic the idea is just to let people know that you are legit and you'll be willing to leave it for that long. You have a strong mind

It's all about priority like I mentioned initially. If the forum project is definitely on a high priority, I will get it back on as quickly as possible. I will even hire an expert to help me do it if I can't do it on my own fast. But if it's not a forum with a priority need, it's more like just a play thing, I can stall on it for as long as I want and nothing will happen.

Well I think that can work if the use of the websites is not very high, when I say high I mean is not due to generate income based on the traffic because if it is used to generate income bizarre traffic I want to believe you would not let it stay that long or be okay with it staying that long before having it fixed.

My site was down for more than 4 hours in the past and it was one of the most difficult times as I ended up missing a big sale. What I have done recently is to hire the best hands to always help me handle most of these tasks that has to do with my website to avoid being in another tight corner.

This is one of the reason why it is very important for you to have a very good hosting company that you make use of because they are going to be very helpful when it comes to bringing back your website back online whenever there is an issue that caused it to be having a downtime that you cannot control.

If you're the one who put your forum in a downtime to carry out maintenance, you ought to do the maintenance very fast and make sure the forum is back online within or in less than 24 hours. The longer your website is offline, you're losing your website's ranking.

Whenever you have a website that is doing very well in terms of traffic generation and also making money for you, it is always going to be in your best interest to try as much as possible to limit how long the website says offline because it will affect your revenue generation and also your traffic generation as well. Building SEO takes time when you lose it.
