How do you hire staff members for your website?

When it comes to hiring someone on my forum, I look at how active they are and how passionate they seem to be with the discussions on the forum and how much they want to see the forum thrive as well.

I tend to offer staff services at the moment voluntary only so I don't expect too much from my staff but knowing they are active when they can be and also passionate about the forum is a bonus I look out for.

I have hired from freelance marketplaces as well as webmaster forums. I also like to work with the same team even when I create a new project. I have a freelancer on my team who has been working on my websites since 2017. I look for skills and when I am hiring.

When it comes to hiring forum staffs who would work for me as either administrators or moderators, I would make sure to hire those who already have experience in the position that I'm interested in hiring for. It saves me a lot time and stress of a prolonged training of the new staff. Fiverr is a very good place to hire. You can also hire from Forum Promotion.

I've been flying solo for years on my forum, but if I were to hire any staff members I'd look for some of the following:
  • Maturity/Civility
  • Experience with the niche of the board.
  • Actively engages with the community and contributes their fair share.
  • Follows the rules.
  • Encourages Members

I would definitely have the same qualities looked out for in any staff member I want to hire to work in my forum. All those qualities would make it very easier for them to work effectively and efficiently. Managing people is difficult and it's why you need those better at it to work for you.

When you have built a good working relationship with some people, it's always going to be very easy to keep working with them on different projects. I have had the same experience with working together with my partner on so many projects. He always reaches out to me first whenever he wants to work on something new.

Looking out for those that have been there for you since you started working and creating websites is a very good decision as long as they are loyal to the cause. You need familiar faces sometimes while learning about how to work well with the rest of the team too to get things working well.

It can be risky when hiring someone for the first time. I have had a pretty bad experience a couple of times. I once hired someone to work on my forum but it turned out that this guy has been posting the same content across multiple forums. However, hiring first timer can also be a cheaper option.

It is always going to be in the best interest of your community to make sure that you take out time to evaluate anyone that you want to hire and if it's possible for you to find someone who is already in employment for another forum owner to work for you, it is going to be a more better decision.
