Do you like tag users when you're making use of forums? Some people say it draws unnecessary attention to the person being tagged and other members taking notice to why they are tagged. They feel it's better to just quote their comment instead of tagged them.

How do you feel about this?

Tagging is a great feature on a forum, it will allow you to bring in the attention of certain users, communicate directly with the user, and reply directly to the user. However, this feature is easily abused. People do unnecessary tagging. Just like tagging., directly quoting a user is also a great feature on forums but sadly this is also being frequently abused.

This is exactly the reason why I have issue with how some people who are making use of forums get to abuse using the tagging feature. This is because they do it in a way that is going to be completely annoying to the person they are tagging for something that is even irrelevant.

I think there should be some guidelines on forums related to quoting posts and tagging members. If some members feel annoyed and do not want their usernames to be tagged frequently or do not want their replies to be quoted frequently, the admins and moderators should reprimand the users to are tagging and quoting frequently. Forums are for discussion, it is understandable. However, your discussion should not annoy other members.

There's actually nothing wrong in tagging other forum users but it all depends on the reason for tagging. It's a good thing when you tag other user for commending their good contributions but it's could wrong tagging someone with abusive comments.

If the user is already posting in the topic and I am replying to them, I may tag them. But usually I don't tag people in my forum posts unless I want them to respond specifically. Tagging is built in, and as long as you are inquiring about something, I don't see an issue. But if you spam a user, that may cause some problems. Just don't @ people that often.

Tagging is one best features of a forum this helps promote your content or attract new and old members and tagging in forums play a crucial role in organizing, searching, filtering, content discovery, and promoting engagement. They provide structure and efficiency to forum discussions, making it easier for users to find relevant information and actively participate in the community.

I so much love it when using of that feature is done in the right way because it will always give any member tagged a prompt alert that something is being talked or referred to him about and he can easily trace the tag to respond once he's online.

Tagging users can be useful in cases where you want to specifically bring someone's attention to a post or request their input on a particular topic. It can facilitate direct communication and engagement with specific individuals.

You are very correct with that assessment because I actually see some people who are trying to get some information from a particular member without tagging them and the person will not even know they are the one being asked about whatever the other person wants to know from them. But with tags, you can't miss it out.

When I started using forums, in one particular forum I started tagging users in many topics that even these users had not participated in, simply because I got along with them and wanted to get their opinion on that topic, at the end the admin kindly brought it to my attention and told me not to abuse this feature and to use it only when necessary, currently that's what I do, I only use it when absolutely necessary, in fact I almost always use the "Reply" feature, which is designed for that.

Some people have personal problems which they carry to forums and dish it out to others through how they behave. I have been in a forum where a lady had serious issue with someone using the quote feature to reply her comment. She was very aggressive about it and even when she was being told it's part of how a forum is used, she wasn't hearing. She ended up getting herself banned. Have you seen anything like that?
