How did you learn how to design?

Whether you can design themes, logos, or something completely different, we all had to start somewhere. Where was the place you started? Was it an online website, a course at school, or something completely different?

I know a friend who really inspired me to get into graphic design even though I'm not that great. I started to buy courses and bought a membership at lynda.com and now I'm a decent designer.

Honestly, I got started with ProBoards. There use to be a site called Solid Snake Designs. It was one of the most active, popular ProBoards design forums ever. They had thousands of tutorials, held graphic and design competitions all the time, and never missed a beat. That's where I got my start in the industry. I'm mainly self taught, especially with the advance stuff. Google was good to me.

Self-taught basically. Started doing some misc designs (signatures, avatars etc) and then ventured into web design. A few years after I started designing I took some courses in college regarding webdesign.
