There are some forums totally dedicated to it. Are they a help? How? Has anyone got good tips or bought hosting from something they've seen on a hosting forum?

Anyway, I always thought it would be cool to have a hosting forum, but it would be gigantic struggle to make it come out on top and be something like regular or even a part-time job.

I've seen them. Always seemed like it would be a bit of hard work to figure out what is a legitimate offer from the spam, based on the web hosting forums I have seen. THen again, I am pretty sure the more popular ones I have looked at time to time, have good staff to make sure that the spam offers are weeded out from the actual person to person offers.

I'm thinking a putting a couple of thousand, preferable more, into some hosting forum investment should make a nice part-time or full-time job. Well, there would be some work, but basically it's "vending machine" type income. Well, the hardest work would be building it - while being assisted by the investment.

Before I started my general discussion forum, I was actually keeping tabs on one hosting forum that was up for sale because it had a lot of potential. But the price tag for the database was too much and in addition, I would have had to purchase a XF license which would end up being way too expensive.

If done properly, they can be a great money maker as you can utilise a lot of affiliate offers.

What was the price range for the database? How much traffic did it get? What was it's SEO potential when bought (number of backlinks, SEO metrics etc..)?

Ah I've had thoughts of this in the past. The 2 I know are freewebspace and webhostingtalk, the more popular one being webhostingtalk. This is where I always look for a host when I need a new one. There are countless hosts that post deals and offers and a lot of time you can find things like a VPS for fairly cheap. If your looking for a host it's best to find it on one of those sites instead of risking all your money on something your unsure about.

I am sure there are many hosting providers out there with affordable rates. It's just that, they are not established and they can give up easily as well.

I know someone who tried to make a living out of it and gave up after 5 months. I really don't want to choose such unreliable hosting for my website. It's just my motto to always go for established ones if you are serious about something. Of course, you will have to pay more for these established hosting services.

I was once a part of a forum that was owned by a hosting company. If you were a regular poster on the forum, you could earn some credits that you could use to buy hosting. I never used that service.

This idea of hosting forum who would actually be very lucrative but having a website hosting forum would be quite expensive and generally difficult to manage but it will be worthwhile if one can acquire it.
